Awakenings

An email Al-Anon meeting

Part Of Al-Anon

Relationship To Al-Anon Family Groups

"Awakenings is registered at WSO as an online meeting with
an ID # of 061428. We also are part of the OnLine Al-Anon
Information Service. Members of Awakenings have
representation in the service structure of Al-Anon as a
whole through their face to face Al-Anon Farmily Group
Representative."

Awakenings Service

The biggest way you can help Awakenings is to post shares. You can also help by carrying the message and letting others know about Awakenings and by welcoming and sending hugs to new members. When you are ready we hope you will volunteer to be a Trusted Servant.

A Word About Group Conscience/Group Inventory

Awakenings has a group inventory scheduled annually. The Member Contact posts a call for agenda items. Please feel free to bring up any concerns. You may post your concern to the list as a whole, or to the Member Contact.

Concerns are discussed by the Trusted Servants and options for solution presented to the entire membership for affirmation [or not]. When needed, summaries of discussion points are distributed so all may be informed and participate.

A Word About Sponsorship

One Al-Anon sharing with another through the journey of recovery in the relationship of sponsor/sponsee has helped many of us. If you are nudged by your HP to ask one of us to be your on-line sponsor, feel free to ask. Sometimes a person may have to say "no" to a request. This is okay - it is not about you. It is about where they are in their lives. Face to face sponsorship, where you attend meetings, is also important. Each relationship is unique and different. Honesty, Open mindedness and Willingness is the key. It is always a choice left up to the individual(s), with, of course, the guidance of the HP.

Anonymity

The fourth Guideline for Awakenings is "We will work hard at reminding ourselves to place principles above personalities and remembering anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions, as well as our lives." In Al-Anon, what we do for a living, where we work, the name of our spouse, our children, our parents is unimportant, as is our name. In Al-Anon we are all equals with the single purpose of recovery from the effects of living with an alcoholic whether the alcoholic is still drinking or not.

Please be aware of this principle and keep what you read here confidential. This is especially important if you are using a company or school computer. If you are nudged by your HP to copy a share, please be sure you first check with the author and remove all identification. "Only in this way can we feel free to say what is in our minds and hearts, for this is how we help one another in Al-Anon." (Al-Anon/Alateen Service Manual pg 53: c. AFGH, Inc. 1995)

Quoting Conference Approved Literature

While Al-Anon as a whole is studying how online Al-Anon is part of the fellowship, the Board of Trustees, the guardians of our Traditions, has granted a limited license to Awakenings to use copyrighted CAL in our email meeting. In July 1998, by Group Conscience vote, we adopted Guideline 11 to be in harmony with this license. You may see the agreement on the OLA-IS site WSO Request Form For copy of the complete licensing letter write awakeningsts@yahoogroups.com

Seventh Traditon

When Awakenings went from each of us keeping our own personal address books to using a list that could easily handle all of our addresses, we had an expense, [much as a face to face group may pay rent for the room where Al-Anon meets]. Each month, in the messages, you will given information as to how you may participate in the 7th Tradition and help Awakenings be self supporting. Contributions are voluntary.

The monthly report will show prior balance, amount received, expenditures and balance. Our primary expenditure is for the listserve cost. After keeping a prudent reserve, all excess funds will be sent to WSO as a contribution from Awakenings to the world-wide fellowship of Al-Anon/Alateen. [Group ID # 061428] and/or participation in joint efforts with other OLA Meetings. Ten percent of the monthly balance is distributed between WSO and OLA-IS. WSO Quartely Appeal Letters are posted and the Treasurer's report includes the WSO and OLA-IS address for individuals to make contributions. During our Anniversary month a special gratitude Birthday contribution is sent to WSO.

Face To Face Meetings

Awakenings is a special on-line focus group. We urge you to attend face to face Al-Anon meetings. If you need help in finding one you may call Al-Anon's World Service Office at 1-888-425-2666; in Canada, call 1-800-443-4525. Or check the WSO web page at: http://www.al-anon-alateen.org/meetings/meeting.html
